Exmore Beach Hotels

To be perfectly honest, Exmore Virginia really isn’t a beach town. However it is on a thin peninsula and surrounded by water so beaches aren’t far at all in a couple of directions. For that reason we figured we would include it here. There are several hotels in the general area. We recommend the Holiday Inn Express if you are planning to stay there. Click on the “more hotels” link if you would like to check out other hotes in the area.

See here for maps and pictures of the Exmore area.

About Exmore Virginia

Exmore is a small town out near the southernmost point of the Eastern Shore peninsula. We get this quote on the town history from the city web site:

“Exmore’s beginning is probably best described by H.C. Davis of Willis Wharf, who went to Exmore as a railroad employee shortly prior to the railroad’s passing through the soon to be town, he replied: “It wasn’t known as anything-there was nothing there.” That was not entirely true. There was farmland stretching across this narrow section of the Shore from Willis Wharf to Belle Haven.”

There was a fun article published recently about an antiques store near Exmore. Here is an excerpt:

Buckle up, folks: It’s time for another excellent road trip!

On this day, because we hadn’t been there in who-knows-how-long, we headed over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and chatted and talked and spoke kindly of absolutely everyone we knew until we arrived at our destination – The Blue Crow Antique Mall in Keller, Va., about seven miles north of Exmore.

It claims to be the second-largest antiques mall in Virginia with 250 dealers under one roof – 35,000 square feet of period furniture, estate and vintage costume jewelry, decorative arts, Christmas goods, nautical antiques and vintage hunting and fishing gadgets, decoys and tools and, for good spirits, a wine shop.

It’s true. There’s all that and more.

Wear your walking shoes.
