About Long Branch

The Long Branch wiki says the following about the area:

Long Branch is a city in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the city population was 31,340. …

Long Branch was a beach resort town in the late 18th century. In the 19th century it was a “Hollywood” of the east, where some of the greatest theatrical and other performers of the day gathered and performed. It was visited by presidents Chester A. Arthur, James A. Garfield, Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Harrison, Rutherford B. Hayes, William McKinley, and Woodrow Wilson. Seven Presidents Park, a park near the beach, is named in honor of their visits. The Church of the Presidents, where all seven worshiped, is the only structure left in Long Branch associated with them.

The Long Branch chamber of commerce site says this:

As the largest city in Monmouth County, Long Branch is many places in one … a rich tapestry of cultural currents and cool breezes – from beloved “mom and pop” storefronts and old-world ethnic cafes, to sophisticated nightlife and upscale shopping.

If you’re looking for great dining, chic boutiques, outdoor recreation, art, music, theater or simply state-of-the-art relaxation, you’ve come to the right place!

On Oceanfest

The chamber of commerce site says this about Long Branch’s Oceanfest:

“It’s the biggest seasonal event on the Jersey Shore!! In fact, it’s the biggest Independence Day celebration anywhere in New Jersey, and it happens every July 4th right here in Long Branch.

Each year since 1990, crowds numbering in the hundreds of thousands have descended upon the city’s ocean-front promenade from points all over the Mid-Atlantic region for Oceanfest—an all-day, family-friendly festival that brings together the most memorable sights, sounds and sensations of the summer season.

Not just a music or food festival; much more than a craft sale or street fair, Oceanfest combines the best parts of everyone’s favorite community and cultural events—and caps it all off with the most spectacular fireworks display you’ll see anywhere, along the Jersey coast.

At Oceanfest, visitors can stroll the famous beachfront boards, take in the famous views, enjoy performances by dancers, musicians, clowns and children’s entertainment. Sample from a smorgasbord of food vendors, and check out the wares of crafters from all over the northeast. You can even see a sand sculpture demonstration, meet a familiar costumed character, and catch some cool ocean breezes.

The festival will be held July 4th from 10 am to 10 pm, rain or shine. Oceanfest is a free, family-friendly celebration that takes place along the half-mile stretch of the Oceanfront Promenade between Seven Presidents Park and the Ocean Place Resort & Spa.”

Times are tough are over. We get this interesting report from a Long Branch NJ paper:

Students may no longer be able to attend city beaches for free if a City Council proposal becomes official.

Faced with a $358,000 deficit from beach operations, the council unofficially announced at its March 22 meeting that it would be raising all beach badge prices.

The council agreed at the workshop meeting that the price of a daily weekday badge will remain at $5 but the weekend daily badge will go from $5 to $7 and the seasonal badge will be raised from $35 to $45.

The council also agreed that students ages 14-17, who previously had free access to the beaches, would be charged $3 for a daily badge and $30 for a seasonal badge.
